Started at the kitchen table
In the spring of 2015, our adventure begins. Inspired by a wooden pair of sunglasses, we start brainstorming at the family kitchen table. We wonder which product we could do something similar with. That’s when we discover that wooden watches also exist, but we quickly notice they’re all dull and designed without any real attention to style.
From this comes our first design, which we will launch in May 2015: wooden watches with colored dials and a minimalist design.
Innovation in funeral services
In 2018, through a visit to the Duin- en Bollenstreek Crematorium, we first became acquainted with the funeral industry. A conversation with one of the staff members laid the foundation for the very first Memorial Watch.
The idea we ultimately launched at the end of 2019 is a watch in which the ashes are incorporated into the dial. This creates a special memorial object that brings time and memories together.
From watch to urn
Thanks to the Memorial Watch, we have discovered the world of urns and memorial objects in recent years. We noticed that our watch truly introduced an innovation into this field.
This made us think again. What are we missing when we look at what’s on offer? Our conclusion was that urns—specifically small, huggable urns made from natural and sustainable materials—were lacking.
For us, this was reason enough to return to the drawing board in 2021. Many prototypes were created as a result, culminating in the first NATURN urn in 2024.
With a diameter of 7.5 centimeters, this urn fits very naturally and comfortably in your hand. Because it is made of wood, it has a warm feel when touched. The minimalist design blends subtly into any interior, without making it immediately obvious that it is an urn.
